For the Crockpot Chicken
- 1 Large Roasting Chicken
- 2-4 5sp Salt
- 2 tsp Paprika
- Dash of Cayenne Pepper
- 1 tsp Onion Powder
- 1 tsp Thyme
- 1 tsp Black Pepper
- 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
For the Gravy and Bone Broth
- 1/2 Cup Water
- 3 Tbsp Cornstarch
- 1/4 Cup Water
- 1 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar
Crockpot Chicken
In a small bowl, combine the spices: salt, paprika, cayenne pepper, onion powder, thyme, pepper, and garlic powder.
In a separate bowl, remove any giblets from chicken and clean chicken.
Using a soup spoon, lift up the skin of the chicken and make a space between the skin and the meat. Rub the spice mixture onto the chicken under the skin and outside of the skin - on both the front and the back.
Put the chicken in the crockpot (No liquid is needed, the chicken will make its own juices)
Cook on low 6-8 hours. When finished cooking, the chicken will fall apart because it is so tender.
Gravy
To make the gravy, strain the juices from the crockpot into a pan and add 1/2 cup water.
Next, in a separate bowl mix together the cornstarch and 1/4 cup water until combined. Then add to the pan to make a gravy.
Whisk over medium heat, until thick. Season as needed.
Chicken Bone Broth
Save all the chicken bones and skin as you remove the meat.
Put into a crockpot and cover by at least 3-4 inches with water, add 1 t apple cider vinegar
Cook on low for 20 hours
Strain the bone broth and discard the bones.
Enjoy your homeade chicken broth!
