Told You Need a Root Canal? There Is Always Another Option.
When a dentist says you need a root canal, it can feel like the decision has already been made. But for many patients, that’s not the full picture.
At Total Care Dental, we evaluate every case and make sure you know your options before choosing a root canal. If the nerve inside your tooth is still alive, there may be another path — one that preserves the living tooth without the cost, recovery, or long-term concerns that come with a root canal.
The first step is finding out where things actually stand.
Biological Dentistry Approach to Root Canal Prevention
How We Evaluate Whether Your Tooth Can Be Saved
Not every dentist approaches a deep cavity the same way. At Total Care Dental, we start by gathering the right information.
We use a cone beam CT scan to get a full three-dimensional view of the tooth and surrounding bone. This lets us see things a standard X-ray often misses, including exactly how close the decay is to the nerve and whether the surrounding bone is healthy.
Then we test the tooth to see if the nerve is still alive. This step is critical, and it’s one many conventional dentists skip. If the nerve is alive, we have real options.
When conditions allow, we go in and clean all the way down to the decay, but leave the nerve untouched. We then use ozone therapy to kill the bacteria in the area, and restore the tooth with biocompatible materials right there. Over 90% of the time, the nerve heals. No root canal needed.
Schedule your new patient exam to have your tooth evaluated.

Why Acting Early Makes All the Difference
The window for preserving a tooth’s nerve is real, but it has limits. Once bacteria have caused irreversible damage to the nerve and it is dead or dying, a root canal or tooth removal are the only options. Catching things earlier changes what’s possible.
Many patients are surprised to learn their tooth has been in trouble for a while before pain ever started. Deep decay can progress silently. By the time a tooth becomes painful, options can be more limited than they would have been months earlier.
An evaluation now, while the nerve may still be alive, gives you the best chance of keeping it that way. Even if you’ve already been told you need a root canal, it’s worth finding out if that’s still true with the right imaging and testing.
Why Patients Choose Total Care Dental for Root Canal Prevention
Biological dentistry approaches tooth health differently. We look at the whole picture, not just the problem in front of us. That means using technology, materials, and techniques that work with your body’s natural healing ability, not against it.
Our process draws on cone beam imaging for accurate diagnosis, ozone therapy to address bacteria without harsh chemicals, and biocompatible restorative materials that support long-term tooth health. Every step is chosen with the living tooth in mind.
We’ve helped hundreds of patients who walked in convinced a root canal was their only option. Many of them still have their natural tooth. We can’t promise the same result for everyone, but we can promise a thorough, honest evaluation before any decision is made.
